Exercise Area for Horses

Horses need a sizeable exercise area and shelter. To keep your horses healthy, make sure you provide both.

The minimum exercise area for a horse is 5000 square feet or about 1/8 acre. A flat 50' by 100' area will provide room for your horse to get the exercise it needs, but bigger is better. A 20,000 square foot or about 1/2 acre is definitely better. With pasture, one needs about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 acres.

Horses need shelter. A three-sided run-in shed or a shelter belt of mature trees provide adequate protection for horses in pasture.

Whether or not your horses are in pasture, The Mercantile can provide for your needs. Please come in to a store nearest you for horse and livestock shelter kits.
